Citizen Development Solution (CDS), together with Nepal Engineering, Management and Development Consultancy (NEMDEC), works with Sustainable WASH for All (SUSWA) on Social Business Development and FSM Entrepreneurship Support. The SUSWA project is a bilateral initiative of the Governments of Nepal and Finland, with support from the European Union, working with local governments in Karnali Province to strengthen sustainable WASH services. The Social Business Development component supports entrepreneurship in faecal sludge management (FSM), particularly targeting young entrepreneurs, existing informal operators, emerging sanitation businesses, desludging operators, and local service providers.
The assignment provides expert services to design and implement a comprehensive incubation, mentoring, and business development pipeline adapted to the geographical, economic, and institutional realities of Karnali Province. It goes beyond conventional entrepreneurship training by supporting the practical emergence of operational sanitation and FSM-related businesses capable of functioning in remote rural and small-town environments characterized by low population density, weak market maturity, high transport costs, difficult logistics, and seasonal access constraints.
The assignment adopts a practical and adaptive incubation approach that combines business development support, operational accompaniment, market validation, mentoring, and institutional linkage-building. It supports the progressive identification, incubation, testing, refinement, and accompaniment of a limited number of viable entrepreneurs and service providers capable of contributing to the development of local sanitation service ecosystems. The nine-month assignment commenced in June 2026 and will conclude in February 2027.
